It will be Type 2 Diabetes Prevention Week 2021 between Monday 10th and Sunday 16th May. This is an important yearly awareness week which aims to inform the public about who is most at risk of getting type 2 diabetes and what they can do to find out their diabetes risk score.
The fact is that there are some groups of people that are at a higher risk of getting type 2 diabetes than others. These groups are: men, people of South Asian or Black ethnicity, people who are overweight and people with a family history of Type 2 diabetes.
At the current time it’s also important to be aware that people living with diabetes face a significantly higher risk of dying if they get COVID-19.
The good news is that there are a number of lifestyle factors that can help prevent you from getting type 2 diabetes.
You can prevent type 2 diabetes by eating a healthy, balanced diet, maintaining a healthy weight, and keeping physically active.
For support with eating a healthy balanced diet visit our Eat Well page or speak to one of our health advisors on 020 8973 3545.
We also have lots of ways for all the family to keep active on our Be Active page. You could also try some brisk walking with the Active 10 app or learn to run in 9 weeks with the Couch to 5K app.
